The criteria: total cost and adoption (not the brochure)
An ERP fails for two reasons: it cost much more than quoted (implementation, consultants, "extra" modules) or the team never adopted it. That's why we compare: total cost year 1 (license + implementation + consulting), real time to operate, and adoption curve — in addition to the local: tax billing of your country, currency and support in Spanish.
The 8, from lightest to heaviest
- Aura — Modern all-in-one with operational AI: CRM, WhatsApp, POS, ecommerce, inventory, billing, payroll and finance. $599 USD/month, without implementer, operating in days. Year 1: ~$7,200 USD all included. Ideal: SME of 3-50 people that sells through various channels. Con: Complex manufacturing (deep MRP) is not your domain.
- Alegra/Siigo — Accountant-centric, cheap and solid for billing and compliance. Year 1: $300-2,000 USD. Ideal if your need is fiscal, not complete operational.
- Bind ERP — Mexican, cloud, focused on commercial SMEs: inventories, billing, finances. Year 1: ~$1,500-5,000 USD. Good local middle ground; short in conversational sales and ecommerce.
- Defontana — Chilean with regional presence: complete cloud ERP with local payroll. Year 1: ~$3,000-10,000 USD. Strong in Chile; evaluates depth outside.
- Odoo — Modular open source: it can be whatever you want… with an implementer. Enterprise: $30-50 USD/user/month + partner ($15k-50k USD typical). Year 1: $20k-70k USD. Ideal with internal IT or trusted partner; risk is the eternal project.
- Microsoft Dynamics 365 BC — Solid, integrated with Office, mature partner channel. ~$70-100 USD/user/month + implementation $30k-100k USD. For medium-large SMEs already married to Microsoft.
- SAP Business One — The classic: deep, reliable, expensive. Year 1: $80k-200k USD for 10 users. It makes sense for $50M MXN/year upwards, with IT.
- NetSuite — Oracle's cloud enterprise ERP: multi-company, multi-country, consolidation. Year 1: $50k-150k USD. For groups and scale-ups with investment, not for the typical SME.
The 3 pitfalls of the purchasing process
- The perfect demo: every demo works; It requires seeing YOUR case (your tax invoice, your real sales flow) assembled live, not a tour of screens.
- The “included” implementation: Ask what happens on day 91 — how much does each change, each new report, each extra user cost? There lives the real cost of traditional ERPs.
- The contract that locks you in: annuities in advance + data that is difficult to export = marriage without divorce. Prefers monthly payment and free export; Aura's $14, 14-day trial is the opposite extreme of the contract trap.
Quick decision by profile
- 1-10 people, fiscal pain: Alegra or Siigo.
- 3-50 people, multi-channel sales (WhatsApp, store, physical) and desire for AI that works: Aura.
- 10-100 people with IT or partner and need for deep customization: Odoo or Dynamics BC.
- 100+ people, multi-country, consolidation: NetSuite or SAP B1.
- Final rule: the best ERP is the one that your team uses completely in 90 days. Everything else is PowerPoint.

How much does it cost to implement an ERP in an SME?
The honest 2026 range: from ~$0 (self-service platforms like Aura, operating in days) to $150,000+ USD (SAP/NetSuite with consultants). The license is usually the SMALL part of the cost in traditional ERPs.
What ERP handles billing for my country?
The locals (Bind, Alegra, Siigo, Defontana, Aura) bring the native ringing of their countries. In global ones (SAP, Dynamics, NetSuite, Odoo), the tax localization is an add-on from the partner — ask for it with first and last name: CFDI 4.0, DIAN, SII, AFIP.
Is ERP with AI marketing or real?
It depends on what the AI does: if it just summarizes and writes, it's marketing. If you operate — serve clients via WhatsApp, create orders, pursue collections, alert deviations — change the payroll you need. Ask to see the AI running a complete flow in the demo.
Can I start small and grow within the same ERP?
It is the healthy path: activate 2-3 modules (sales, inventory, billing) and add the rest to the rhythm of the business. Check that the price does not punish you for growing: in Aura the modules are included in the plan; In others, each module is a new quote.
